The online system is now open for applications to the EDESIA programme. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be informed at the end of January. Interviews are expected to take place in Norwich in February, with an option for teleconferencing for international interviewees.
We expect competition for entry to this programme to be high; candidates are encouraged to read the programe requirements carefully, and to allow sufficient time to develop a high-quality application.

Eligibility
Applicants should fulfil the entry requirements for PhD registration at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and should have, or expect to obtain, a minimum of Upper Second Class UK Honours Degree or equivalent. Applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency; read more information on UEA entry requirements here.
Application Process
Applications to the EDESIA: plants, food and health programme should be made using the online application form on the UEA website. The system will be open for applications to the EDESIA programme from 28 October. Applications are made to the programme, and not to an individual project. Candidates must create an account on the UEA electronic admissions system: more information is available on our website. The following documents will be required in the online form:
1. Official Transcripts (in English) of your Higher Education qualifications.
2. Evidence of your English Proficiency (if English is not your first language you should read the information here).
3. Two references — you will need to provide the contact details and email addresses for your two referees (please inform them that they will be contacted via email to provide a reference). At least one of these must be an academic reference. References will not be considered from supervisors on the project you are applying for. 4. Personal Statement — Your personal statement must be no more than 500 words and should outline how your experience relates to undertaking research study with usin the EDESIA programme. We wish to build a diverse and inclusive cohort and are looking for candidates who will make a strong contribution to the EDESIA community of researchers. We highly value curiosity, ability, independence, and the commitment to work across disciplines to deliver high-impact research.
5. Curriculum Vitae – Your CV should detail professional qualifications, publications and research interests.
6. Research Statement — up to 1500 words — Describe your reasons for choosing the EDESIA: plants, food and health programme and how it fits with your long-term career objectives. You should include three research areas of the participating institutes that you could potentially choose for your three mini-projects in the first rotation year and why they interest you. Please note that the Research Statement must have been produced by you.
